6 Tips For Hypnobirthing in Tacoma Hospitals

Everyone knows you can do Hypnobirthing at home or a birth center but did you know that it can be done at any of the hospitals in Tacoma with some prior planning? Tacoma has two main hospitals that do births. Both of these hospitals can be used for hypnobirth. Here are some things to keep in mind when planning on using Hypnobabies or any other hypnobirthing system in Tacoma:

1. Clearly communicate with your care provider about the wording they need to use

Most hypnosis systems change out words like “contractions” with “pressure waves” or something along those lines. This is to take the associations that our brains have with words like “labor” and to replace it with a word such as “birthing time”. This helps to keep us from picturing what we saw on tv or the last horror story our aunt shared with us, when we go in to labor.

2. Go over your birth plan in detail with your care provider before birth

Hypno birth is really different then other “natural” birth systems so you need to make sure your provider didn’t just skim your birth plan. Your birth plan should be no more then one page to make it easy for anyone to go over. Some programs, like Hypnobabies have a sample birth plan with the differences highlighted to make it easy for your provider to look over.

3. Have someone put together a treat for the nurses to bring in when you go to the hospital

This can be an easy brownie mix from a box that you make in early labor or some candy bars that were bought ahead of time. Whatever works for your family. Make sure it is a sweet treat, nothing “healthy”. You do this because you are going to be asking for things to be a bit different and sugar always helps change go easier.

4. Bring comfortable headphones and to have all of your tracks ready to go before birth

You want to have all of this ready to go before you need it. Also make sure your birth partner and doula know how to find your hypno tracks. It really sucks when you are deeply in labor land and none of us can find your tracks for you to use (ask me how I know this).

5. Have your birth team post your needs, printed large on the door of your room

We want everyone who walks in there to see your needs. You do not want a nurse to come in, turn on the lights, start talking about how much pain you might be in, and so on. You may need someone to be a kind of guard of sort. This person can quickly intercept anyone who did not see the needs posted on the door or who is disturbing your “bubble of peace”.

6. Consider hiring a Tacoma Hypno doula

A hypno doula will support you in a way that will not break your concentration and respects the work you have put in to your hypno training. We are trained to work with any kind of birth hypnosis that you choose. Try to find a hypno doula who has used birth hypnosis themselves.
