If you are trying to get pregnant, you will want to be on the look out for early pregnancy signs. Recognizing the early signs of pregnancy can sometimes be challenging, especially for first-time parents. While missed periods are often the most obvious indicator, there are several other subtle signs that may suggest you’re expecting. In this blog post, we’ll delve into five early signs of pregnancy that every woman should be aware of.
Pregnancy Sign Number One: Fatigue
One of the earliest signs of pregnancy is often extreme tiredness or fatigue. Many people experience a sudden and overwhelming need to nap or rest during the day, even if they’ve had a full night’s sleep. For myself, I noticed that I suddenly needed 10+ hours of sleep a day! This fatigue is caused by increased levels of progesterone in the body. This can leave you feeling exhausted as your body adjusts to the changes of pregnancy.
Pregnancy Symptom Number two: Breast Changes
Changes in the breasts are another common early sign of pregnancy. You may notice that your breasts feel tender, swollen, or heavy to the touch. The areolas, the area around the nipples, may also darken in color although this often happens later on in pregnancy. These changes occur due to hormonal fluctuations in preparation for breastfeeding. Pay attention to any unusual sensitivity or changes in your breasts. This can provide valuable clues about your pregnancy status. If you are having a hard time sleeping due to breast tenderness, try wearing a supportive, cotton sports bra to bed.
Pregnancy Sign Number Three: Nausea and Morning Sickness:
Morning sickness, characterized by nausea and vomiting, is a classic sign of pregnancy that can occur any time of the day. Sometimes this symptom does not show up until you around 6 weeks or possibly not at all. Don’t be discouraged if you aren’t feeling nausea. While it’s commonly associated with the early morning hours, many experience these symptoms throughout the day.
The exact cause of morning sickness is unclear, but it’s believed to be related to hormonal changes and increased sensitivity to certain smells and tastes. If you find yourself feeling queasy or nauseous, especially upon waking up or after meals, it may be an early indication of pregnancy. Try eating small, frequent meals with protein to help with the nausea.
Pregnancy Sign Number Four: Frequent Urination
If you suddenly find yourself making more trips to the bathroom than usual, it could be a sign that you’re pregnant. Increased urination is a common early symptom of pregnancy, often starting as early as six to eight weeks after conception. This is because the hormonal changes that lead to increased blood flow to the kidneys, resulting in more urine production. Frequent urination can be annoying, especially during the night but that doesn’t mean you should skimp on the water! You need to keep on hydrating and keep that water moving through your system.
Pregnancy Symptom Number Five: Changes in Appetite
Changes in appetite and food cravings or aversions are another early sign of pregnancy. You may find yourself craving certain foods that you never enjoyed before, or feeling repulsed by foods you once loved. These changes in taste preferences are often influenced by hormonal fluctuations and can vary widely from woman to woman. Pay attention to your body’s signals and try to maintain a balanced diet despite any food aversions or cravings you may experience.
While these early signs can provide valuable insights, it’s important to remember that everyone’s experience is unique. Some women may experience all of these symptoms, while others may only notice one or two. If you suspect you might be pregnant based on these early signs, it’s a good idea to confirm it with a pregnancy test.
